Diabetes is a big deal. More than 30 million people in the United States alone have diabetes and one in four people don’t even know they have it, says the CDC. It is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States, and this may even be underreported.

If you have type 2 diabetes, your body does not make or use insulin very well, says National Institute of Health. You can develop this at any age, including during childhood. You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are aged 45 or older, have a family history of the disease, or are overweight.
